I’ve been very busy over the past couple of months on a variety of bespoke music composer commissions for online videos and advertisements. This has included work for the Vegetarian Society, the NHS and Coca-cola. Here’s a few of the recent, and not so recent jobs I’ve worked on.

Every Meal Counts – Vegetarian Society

The client need the music to tie in with the positive, down to earth feel of the visuals and tone of voice. The music had to lift at a specific point where the character in the video becomes a vegetarian. You can see the complete campaign in context here: http://everymealcounts.org/

“Meeting with James at the start of our project was really helpful and from the off he completely got the brief and the feel we wanted to achieve for the animations. His flexibility throughout the project also allowed us to create some lovely lift points within each of the videos which really helped with the flow of the narrative and made the final films extra special.

Big Bang Fair 2014

A recent bespoke commission for a set of online videos. The client required a youth focused, upbeat, fast paced dance song with a technology and science theme in a 15/30/60 second format. This was all done to an extremely tight deadline.

Dare 2B – Autumn/Winter

The client required an dramatic, orchestral piece with a large amount of percussive elements and hard hitting epic drums. Reference track: Woodkid – Run Boy Run.

“James defined the mood effortlessly for this film, blending sweeping strings with the urgency of tribal drums to lend a real drama to the piece, he nailed the brief.  In terms of workflow he was a pleasure to work with, he’s got a great ability to respond to very specific changes in a way that maintains the integrity of the score and develops the project as a whole.”

NHS – Caring Never Grows Old

A bespoke commission for the NHS. The client required a very emotion and heartfelt solo instrument piece that complimented the incredibly moving visuals about old age care.

Patchwork Present: Baby Blocks

The client required an uplifting acoustic guitar track to fit perfectly with the animation already created.

Salford University/MediaCityUK Building Projection

To mark the official handover of keys to The University of Salford’s new 103,000 sq ft facility at MediaCityUK, the university celebrated the occasion by projecting a spectacular 3D light projection onto the Maxwell Hall building on the Cresent campus.

The client required an upbeat electro dance track (that begins with the James Kelly track; Lost) that sounded contemporary and uplifting.

His music is astounding and through our collaboration I have found him to be a brilliant person to work with – long may it continue!”

Nintendo Wii C64 Virtual Console Trailer

This trailer was produced to launch the Commodore 64 virtual console on the Nintendo Wii in the USA. Eidos Games (now Square Enix) required a short, snappy, subtly humorous trailer was required capturing the feeling of nostalgia and going back to the 1980’s. The music had to use the same Commodore 64 sound chip that produced such memorable computer soundtracks such as Impossible Mission, The Last Ninja and California Games (that were to be released on the the Wii channel).]

“We put James in complete control of the creative output and I’m happy to say he did not disappoint at all! The final result was first class and it was exactly what we wanted. Perfect! Through a superbly produced authentic soundtrack he captured the 1980’s nostalgia and 8-bit quirkiness we were hoping to communicate to our market. The reaction to the trailer has been absolutely fantastic and overall a great success. I wouldn’t hesitate in hiring him again or recommending him to other people in the industry.”

Julien Ognier – Producer at Square Enix

“James Kelly was an absolute joy to work with. One of those rare souls who when given a task will take it away and dream up something that far exceeds anything you’ve already thought of. He relishes the challenge and opportunity which was incredibly important to us when we were working to a tight schedule. Can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next. Thank you James. ”

Tim Limon – Director at Zero Facility Films

“James is a gifted musician and producer. In 2012 he wrote, performed, produced and mixed an original score for a film I produced called ‘Will Power’. The music he created complimented the visuals of the film perfectly and his ability to alter the music at the request of the Director was unparalleled. The music he produces is so impressive that it is extremely difficult to believe that his orchestral scores could be generated by a single musician. It is clear that his musical talents are boundless, and the dedication he commits to each project is faultless.”

Chris Lane – Producer on Will Power The Movie

“James is a pleasure to work with, and consistently produces music for our productions that not only met the brief but added to it. James is able to tell stories with music – not many people can do that.”
