About

Hello. I’m James. My musical adventures started when I was a Status Quo and Michael Jackson loving seven year old, receiving a half sized classical guitar for Christmas. I produced my first CD at aged 14 with my brother David Kelly on a analogue Tascam 414 four track recorder and have not looked back since then…

I am now an experienced freelance music composer, music producer, songwriter and performer. I became full time self employed back in 2008 and since then I have built up a widely varied client base from independent production companies, music library to larger organisations such as the BBC (CBeebies and BBC Super Movers). Coca-cola and Nintendo.

My music has appeared on television shows around the world such as Top Gear, the BBC Wimbledon coverage, Panorama, Countryfile, Planet Earth, WWE Smackdown, Blue Peter, Jeremy Kyle, The One Show, ITV Tonight and many more.

In addition to music production and music composition I am also a vastly experienced performer. My main instruments are guitar, bass, keys/piano, drums and vocals. I have over 500 gigs under my belt now, playing in a wide range of different musical scenarios. This spans a broad range of genres including rock, jazz, swing, hip-hop, funk, soul, classical, dance, house and acoustic.

Through my singer/songwriter years I supported the likes of The Undertones, Badly Drawn Boy, Kid Harpoon, Diana Vickers and Gomez. In 2010 I was chosen as one of ten finalists in a best UK singer/songwriter competition run by respected national music publication Acoustic Magazine. In 2012 I was chosen from thousands of entrants as one of three winners of a national competition run Supajam to play at Hop Farm Festival 2012.

I also compose and produce for an ambient acoustic project called Eskimotion that has over 20 million streams to date.
